K-pop stars are prohibited from dating as interns and, long after they find fame, musical artists and K-drama actors tend to keep their relationships discreet, so as not to cause a scandal among their fans.
Here are six couples whose romance has become real off-screen.
1. Ryu Soo-young and Park Ha-sun
In an episode of the KBS Happy Together talk show, actor Ryu Soo-young shared how he knew his Two Weeks co-star Park Ha-sun was the woman he wanted to marry. They were sitting on a playground swing and when Ryu went to kiss him, Park surprisingly walked away and laughed. They published their relationship in 2015 and got married and had a child in 2017.
2. Lee Dong-gun and Jo Yoon-hee
They were the leading couple at The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailoring in 2016. The following year, they announced their relationship, got married and had a daughter together. Unfortunately, they divorced this year, citing personality differences as the reason for their separation.
3. Lee Chun-hee and Jeon Hye-jin
This couple played a couple who slowly developed feelings for each other and eventually fell in love, in the 2009 romantic television comedy Smile, You. They became a real life couple, despite their nine-year age difference, if getting married and having a child in 2011.
4. Nam Joo-hyuk and Lee Sung-kyung
Bae Suzy is not the only actress with whom Nam Joo-hyuk has had sparks on the screen. She also had a strong bond with Lee Sung-kyungen, weightlifting fairy Kim Bok-joo, and the two admitted they were dating in 2017. Their agency, YG Entertainment, said they had been close since their model days. But their relationship was not meant to be, they broke up the same year due to conflicting times.
5. Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki
The “Song-Song couple”, who co-starred in Descendants of the Sun, took the world by storm when they announced their wedding in 2017, after denying rumors that they were dating. But the turbulent romance ended in divorce after just 20 months.
6. Park Min-young and Lee Min-ho
Although their relationship flourished when they co-starred in the 2011 drama City Hunter, the two had previously performed together in 2007 on I Am Sam. Park’s agency at the time, King Kong Entertainment, commented that the duo was “pretty much in tune” when it went public in the same year that City Hunter aired. However, they separated after just five months due to scheduling conflicts that ended relationship number one.
