The NVIDIA Ampere A100 CMP HX card is expected to be a complete crypto mining beast with 200 MH / s.
NVIDIA announced in February the four CMP HX mining GPU families based on a mix of Turing and Ampere GPUs. The highest performing family member was the CMP 90HX, based on the GeForce RTX 3080 and providing an Ethereum hash rate of 86 MH / s. Now, the company is said to be preparing to launch a CMP HX card based on the A100 GPU. It is known that the Ampere A100 CMP HX card is at the top of the brand’s Ampere GPUs and is primarily designed for deep learning operations. The A100 is a bandwidth monster thanks to the addition of HBM2 memory with 1.55 TB / s memory bandwidth compared to 936 GB / s for the GeForce RTX 3090 with GDDR6X memory.
Given that Ethereum mining has been successful in memory bandwidth, we can already say that the A100 will be a highly sought-after member of the CMP HX family. The GeForce RTX 3090 has a hash rate of about 120 MH / s, so it is possible that we will see a potential Ampere A100 based CMP HX card reaching 200 MH / s.
Another wonder is how the pricing will be. NVIDIA is using flawed Turing and Ampere GPUs for existing CMP HX cards, and it is reasonable that the company is redesigning the A100 GPUs for mining. Let us remind you that the GeForce RTX 3090 is a $ 1,499 graphics card. RTX 3090 sells on eBay for twice its normal price due to intense demand and supply difficulties. Even though NVIDIA can produce an A100-based CMP HX card at a discounted price, it could likely be three or four times more expensive than the GeForce RTX 3090. We may encounter crazy prices with limited supply and third-party pricing.
