Artem Russakovskii, from Android Police, posted on his Twitter account that he has faced a bug in his Pixel 4 XL that causes the entire Android interface to crash when an app exhibits unstable behavior. Additionally, gestures and the notification panel also stop responding. He even asked whether other users have been in a similar situation.
According to Wccftech, the responses to Russakovskii’s tweet include comments from followers who have the same problem, both using Pixel phones and other models, although the incidence of the bug appears to be higher on Google smartphones.
Another thing that really bothers me on the Pixel 4 XL – when an app freezes up, it oftentimes locks up the whole UI. Notifications, home gesture – everything becomes unresponsive.
Sometimes the UI unfreezes when the app does, sometimes the app remains frozen.

At first, the simplest way to get around the problem is to quickly lock and unlock the device’s screen so that the system interface works again. Thus, the user has the possibility to close the app that caused the crash.
So far, the problematic apps are Amazon, YouTube, Twitter, YouTube Music and even the Play Store.
As the problem does not apply to several models of Android smartphones, the suspicion is that the bug affects only the latest version of the operating system. However, Wccftech staff could not confirm the failure of a Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus that they have available.
