Apple is allegedly preparing to offer GaN USB-C power adapters.Apple may turn to smaller and more power efficient GaN USB-C power adapters for use in its future products.
Gallium nitride or GaN power adapters can pave the way for very compact adapters.
DigiTimes shares that Navitas Semiconductor is expected to receive orders from Apple this year for power adapters based on Gallium nitride technology. On the other hand, TSMC is thought to provide GaN chips to Apple’s supplier. It was previously said that Apple was planning a GaN power adapter with 65 watts of power output and would launch in 2020, but that did not happen.
There is no information on whether Apple plans to launch a GaN USB-C charging adapter for this year. Meanwhile, many third-party brands such as Anker, AUKEY, Belkin have launched their own GaN charging adapters.
The probability of GaN USB-C charging adapters coming with future iPhone smartphones is also very low. As you know, the company has already removed the power adapters from the box contents. We think this device will only come out of the box of the Macbook series.
GaN charging adapters generate less heat. Let us underline that this is extremely efficient in transferring current and causes less energy loss. In addition, the size of the adapter can be reduced by 40 percent and provides great convenience in portability.
