Apple continues to work on the electric car project.Brand new claims have been made about the Apple electric car, which has been spoken for years.
It is stated that the vehicle, which is carried out under the name of Titan Project and will have autonomous driving capability, can start to be produced in 2024.
It is underlined by Reuters that the electric car will host a battery with a groundbreaking single-cell design. This design is said to allow the company to add more active material to the power cell, thus offering a wider range. Apple is also exploring the possibility of using a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry. While not as dense as other battery types, LFP power cells are less prone to overheating and do not require cobalt.
The vehicle can also have multiple LiDAR sensors to detect the surrounding area. In addition to sourcing these components from external suppliers, Apple can also use the LiDAR sensors it has created for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro.
It is welcomed that Apple could turn to an outside partner to help with production. Reuters warns that the delays associated with the pandemic could pull production to 2025 or beyond, and Apple is likely to shrink the scope of the project.
In this sense, instead of building its own car, the company can work with traditional car manufacturers to integrate the technology it has developed into its vehicles. CarPlay can be given as an example for this.
