The American director and screenwriter Joel Schumacher, who is known for his “Batman” films, passed away in his native New York at the age of 80. He died after a year-long fight against cancer, reports a representative of the filmmaker.
Schumacher made two films in the “Batman” series in the 1990s: “Batman Forever” (1995) and “Batman & Robin” (1997) but also cult films such as the vampire horror comedy “The Lost Boys” and the love drama “St. Elmo’s Fire “.
The director was considered one of the outstanding genre filmmakers of the nineties. However, he had to take a lot of criticism especially for his franchise “Batman & Robin” with George Clooney as the title hero.
The film was too silly for many fans, especially the rubber nipple on Batman’s suit bothered many fans.
