Bang Si-hyuk, president and CEO of BTS’s agency Big Hit Entertainment, has been listed in the Variety 500, an index of the 500 most influential business leaders who shape the global media industry.
The Variety 500 revealed its honors list on December 23, US time, highlighting the exploits of business leaders around the world. This year’s list included Korea’s Bang along with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
“If you don’t know the Korean boy band BTS, where have you been?” Variety said.
“Bang is not a one-act showman,” Variety said. “He has been pushing hard towards diversification, moving towards technology with applications like Weverse, as well as with the acquisitions of Pledis, Source Music and the games firm Superb.
“In the first half of 2020, 40% of the sales of South Korea’s top 100 albums belong to Big Hit artists, and their October IPO registered a valuation of $ 840 million.”
Bang has had a successful year together with BTS, and this year he is featured on the 2020 Billboard Power List and the 2020 Billboard Indie Power Players.
He also received the Pony Chung Foundation Innovation Award.
