OnePlus 8 series ColorOS update was confirmed in March. The last statement shows that the phones will wait for the stable update for a long time.
The introduction of the OnePlus 9 series marked the beginning of a new era on the company front. OnePlus 9 series phones offered for sale in China debuted with ColorOS interface. Moreover, OnePlus has announced that there will be a transition to the ColorOS interface for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 8 series retrospectively.
For OnePlus 8, 8 Pro and 8T, ColorOS, which is currently under development, is waiting for users to take a longer process in terms of stable structure and distribution. The ColorOS 11 early access program for the OnePlus8 series and OnePlus 8T launched in May. Almost two months later, OnePlus Community Manager Jia Lan Shuai stated in a message published in China that OnePlus 8 , OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8T will be upgraded to the stable version of ColorOS in 2022.
OPPO will probably announce Android 12-based ColorOS 12 later this year. OnePlus 8 series models will likely be upgraded directly to ColorOS 12 instead of ColorOS 11. This means that at best, users can wait as long as 9-12 months.
On the other hand, OnePlus has announced that it has merged the code base of OxygenOS with OPPO’s ColorOS. Considering the basis of this merger, all OnePlus phones that will be introduced globally from now on will run ColorOS; however, the brand will continue to call the interface OxygenOS as it will have its own look and features.
