Huawei is preparing to build a 5G equipment factory in France.Chinese Telecom giant Huawei will open its first mobile network facility outside of China in Eastern France in 2023, according to a director at Huawei on Tuesday.
Huawei vice president and supervisory board member Catherine Chen announced at a video press conference that work on the factory that will produce base stations should also begin this year. Chen added that the planned factory will open in 2023 and the official decision to establish a manufacturing facility outside of China is a historic decision for Huawei.
The company announced last month that it will invest at least 200 million Euros for the facilities in Brumath. Thus, we can say that Huawei has increased its investments outside of China and is ambitious to exist in the European market. Located in a region close to the German border, the facility plans to make a turnover of 1 billion Euros per year in the European market. In the facility, it is mainly aimed to produce 5G equipment.
The Chinese company is under pressure, both due to accusations that the US mobile network equipment poses a risk of espionage and Beijing’s policy against Uighur Muslims.
Time will show to what extent Huawei’s position in the European market will change with the new investments.
