Instagram announced the launch of new features in honor of LGBTQI+ Pride month. Among the novelties are exclusive stickers and augmented reality filters, which include the colors of more than 12 flags representing different identities of gender and sexuality. All updates are now available for Android and iOS devices.
In partnership with the NGO Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the social network also identified more than 100 popular hashtags among the LGBTQI + community that will appear in a rainbow gradient when used in Stories or in publications
In addition, whoever publishes one of these hashtags, will have their profile photo outlined with the colors of the flag. Among the selected terms, those that are most prominent in Brazil are #Orgulho and #ShareComOrgulho.
According to Instagram, the initiative aims to connect the LGBTQI + community on the platform, since the face-to-face events that mark the month of June were canceled due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. In addition to the hashtags, new stickers were added to the existing options chart.
The drawings were developed by creators of the social network, among which the Brazilian illustrator Niege Borges (@niegeborges) is part. She was responsible for two of the five new patches. “I hope that everyone can express their pride in whatever way they can, from their homes. We will celebrate this moment together, even if from a distance ”, commented the illustrator.
