The Mexican filmmaker Issa López has achieved an international presence after the premiere of her film “Vuelven” (distributed internationally as Tigers Are Not Afraid), which opened doors for her to expand her career in the genre of dark fantasy.
The film is a dark fable where a girl, after asking as a wish that her mother return home, is persecuted by her spirit, who warns her of the dangers that lie in wait for her.
During a recent chat with Collider, López gave details about his next project, which is already in development and will be sponsored by Guillermo del Toro as executive producer.
Its premise turns out to be quite interesting: it is a werewolf western, an idea that del Toro proposed to him after seeing his film.
López compared the elements that make the disparate combination work using the “White America” against the natives of the continent as an analogy.
In the end, he assured that the second draft was completed before the quarantine began, and that Guillermo del Toro was able to receive it, although at the moment he continues to make work plans for “Nightmare Alley”, whose recordings were paused.
