E-commerce giant eBay is considering adding cryptocurrencies as a new payment option to the platform, eBay CEO Jamie Iannone told CNBC on Monday.

Moreover, the company is considering facilitating NFT sales on its platform.

It was said that eBay would enter the cryptocurrency market based on an advertisement at a Consensus conference in May 2019. However, the rumor was quickly ended by the company’s spokesperson:

Cryptocurrency cannot be considered a form of payment on the eBay platform and is not part of our payment strategy.

At this point, cryptocurrencies seem to have grown too large for the company to ignore. However, the decision as to whether to enable the new payment method is not yet final. Although eBay initially started thinking about accepting Bitcoin around 2013, it shelved the plan.
