The M1 Mac Mini’s power consumption is considerably lower than its Intel-based predecessor.Details about the power consumption of the M1-based Mac Mini were shared by Apple.
Accordingly, the Apple processor product consumes 3 times less energy than the Intel-based model. When the company announced the transition to the system carrying its own processor, it shared details about the performance, features and power efficiency that the chipsets can offer without numbers. Later there were some impressive performance figures for M1-based MacBook Pro models, but details about direct power consumption were omitted.
According to the statement, the 2020 Mac Mini consumes 39W of power under load. On the other hand, the 2018 Mac Mini with 6-Core Intel Core i7 processor consumes 122W at the same load. In standby, the 2020 model requires 7W and its predecessor 20W.
The power consumption of the entire system takes into account the consumption of all components including memory, storage, link controllers. This includes Apple’s own Wi-Fi / Bluetooth (and GbE controller) overhead with the new Mac Mini.
When it comes to power efficiency, the 2018 Mac Mini is considered the most power-hungry Mac Mini ever. However, let’s not go without saying that the model is a very powerful option for its time.
