Since they debuted co-directing the great ‘John Wick’ – subtitled in our lands as ‘Another Day to Kill’ -, the specialists turned into filmmakers David Leitch and Chad Stahelski have separately earned a place among the great names of the action Hollywood with titles like ‘Atomic’, or the sequels of the ‘Wick’ saga.
The duo, who has already worked on the ‘Matrix’ saga – Leitch in the sequels and Stahelski from the original tape, in which he was the double of Keanu Reeves -, will return to the famous science fiction franchise in ‘Matrix 4’ ; a production directed this time alone by Lana Wachowski who, unsurprisingly, will have one of her main assets in her combat sequences.
In an interview with Collider, Stahelski, in addition to clarifying that his participation will focus on “supporting the team” and providing “creative concepts for some of the choreography,” he commented that the filming team does not have a second unit. Lana Wachowski will be in charge of directing all the action sequences.
“What makes Lana so great is that she directs the action herself. We’ve had second unit directors in some of the ‘Matrix’ movies solely for logistical reasons. But lately, and especially in ‘Matrix 4’, she’s directing the action. For them, the second units are, for the most part, location plans, the B-sides of some frames for some locations. But Lana, she rolls her own action. She includes it in the things of the main unit, and is so that his material looks so good. ”
“If you’re a fan of the original trilogy, you’re going to love this.”
In addition, the filmmaker and specialist has spoken about the reunion with some colleagues who have already worked on the first adventures of Neo and company.
“They were very cool. They asked us to help with the choreography and with some of the physical training of the boys. I’m helping a little in a sequence. Lana has returned with a lot of love to a kind of family reunion, so it was a lot of fun. It was Good to see many of the team members again. We had just shot a sequence in San Francisco before the pandemic started. ”
To top it off, and make the teeth of those who fully enjoy the franchise even longer, if possible, Stahelski has described ‘Matrix 4’, slated for release on May 21, 2021, as “insanely fun,” adding that ” if you’re a fan of the original trilogy, you’re going to love this. ” The hype train starts to go full speed …
