Tesla CEO Elon Musk has proven to have a significant influence on cryptocurrencies. Both DOGE and Bitcoin pumps pushed prices to record levels, albeit with speculative increases.
Not only Musk, but Tesla also played an important role in the recent Bitcoin surge. This effect seems to have caught the attention of the Monero community as well. The community has released an offer for Tesla to add XMR as a payment option.
Shortly after Elon Musk hinted that Tesla Motors could start accepting Bitcoin (BTC) payments for their electric cars, the Monero community suggested that XMR could also be a good payment option.
After publishing a CCS proposal on February 9, the Monero community collected 890 XMR ($ 155,000) for Monero to be added as a new payment option alongside Bitcoin.
As part of the movement, the community will try to grab Musk’s attention for a period of 21 days starting February 9. If Tesla accepts this initiative, the Monero community will buy 3 brand new Tesla vehicles and then donate the vehicles to three charities. The community has promised that a bid fully funded for this purpose will be reimbursed to contributors if there is no response or participation from Musk within twenty-one days. According to the Monero website, the effort was supported by only 11 participants in total.
According to the offer, Tesla fans can take advantage of the XMR payment option due to its unique privacy features compared to a public and traceable blockchain such as Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH). The community suggested that some Tesla owners would be comfortable making their expensive vehicle assets more private.
