Many claims have been made that the moon photo taken by Samsung with the 100x Space Zoom feature of the Galaxy S21 Ultra is fake. This claim was not actually about the photo being completely fake, but about Samsung’s artificial intelligence producing fake textures. Samsung, which was said to deceive people with the photo, was subjected to very heavy allegations. Today, the highly anticipated statement came and these allegations were denied.
According to Samsung; Image quality from 10x to 100x zoom is enhanced by powerful Super Resolution AI. With a single tap of the shutter, up to 20 frames are captured and processed at instantaneous speeds. Advanced AI then evaluates and corrects thousands of fine details to produce detailed images even at high magnification levels. When shooting at high magnification, Zoom Lock uses intelligent software to place the image in place so you can shoot with minimal shake.
In short, when using Super Resolution AI, each picture is actually a combination of up to 20 pictures (similar to HDR). So Samsung doesn’t produce a fake texture. Anyway, it pulls it just makes the details clear.
When taking pictures with the Galaxy S21 cameras and when the Scene Optimizer is activated, when the AI recognizes the object / scene, it works at every step of the rendering. Artificial intelligence first starts by detecting the scene / image at the preview stage by testing it from an artificial intelligence model trained on hundreds of thousands of images. When the camera detects and identifies the image as a particular scene, such as the Moon, it offers a detail enhancement function by reducing blur and noise.
For example, when taking a picture of an object, 3 basic elements come into play. These; object detection, powerful AI processing, and multi-frame development. Each of these features plays a critical role in delivering quality photos.
When these features are combined, a proper balance is created between a natural look and detail. The process begins with defining an object based on a realistic human eye appearance. Multi-frame fusion and amplification are then added to the subject, producing a higher level of detail. Finally, artificial intelligence is processed by the deep learning solution.
Samsung’s taking advantage of all the blessings of artificial intelligence does not mean that the phone has created a texture that does not exist. In this case, Samsung seems right up to the handle.
