Nintendo Switch sales surpassed Nintendo 3DS with approximately 80 million units.Nintendo shared its quarterly financial results that ended on December 31, 2020.

The company earned 521.11 billion yen ($ 4.96 billion), 98.2 percent higher than the same period in 2019. Nintendo Switch sales, on the other hand, surpassed Nintendo 3DS sales with 79.87 million, or approximately 80 million, in the last quarter. It is even moving towards selling more than the Wii at the end of this year. Third-quarter sales of Nintendo Switch were 11.56 million units, of which 8.40 million were regular Nintendo Switch models and 3.16 million were Nintendo Switch Lite.

Nintendo estimated that 24 million Switch units were sold during the entire fiscal year in November, but these results have already exceeded that number to 24.10 million. Therefore, the company revised its forecast to 26.50 million units, which means it expects to sell 2.40 million this quarter. Nintendo recently announced that a special Mario edition of the Switch will be released alongside Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and another special edition that will help it reach those numbers with Monster Hunter Rise. Otherwise, the Nintendo Switch will surpass Game Boy Advance, another Nintendo system, in three months. Launched in 2001, the handheld console sold 81.51 million units in its lifetime.

Nintendo also points out that there were 29 games that sold more than a million units this financial year, including titles from other software publishers. As a result of these factors, software sales have reached 176.10 million units (43.0 percent increase annually).
