The number of active Android devices surpassed 3 billion, overshadowing iOS.
Sameer Samat, Vice President of Google Product Management, announced that there are more than 3 billion active Android devices at the online Google I / O 2021 event.
This new statement means that 500 million Android users have been added since the Google I / O 2019 developer conference. However, 1 billion active users have been added since 2017, when the estimates exceeded the 2 billion mark. It is stated that these figures are obtained through Google Play Store registrations. Considering that there are millions of Android devices that are not pre-loaded on the Google Play Store, we can say that the figure given may be even higher than current estimates. For example, Huawei smartphones, Amazon Fire devices, etc. Android devices using alternative stores, such as, can make the numbers even higher.
The extremely cautious forecast of active Android devices shows the global prevalence and growth of Android apps. On the other hand, Apple announced earlier this year that it had more than 1 billion active iPhones. This is only a third of the number of Android devices. In this sense, we can say that the figures shared by Google have overshadowed Apple’s iOS devices.
