The world’s leading smart product brand OPPO, as one of the first brands to participate in the Environmental Rating Labeling Program in order to create a more sustainable future, has reinforced its mission of “technology for humanity, good for the world”. This program will be implemented across Europe from June to help consumers identify and compare smartphones with the most sustainable features.
The Environmental Rating initiative, developed to provide accurate and consistent information on the environmental impacts of factors such as the production, use, transportation and disposal of smartphones, was jointly created by Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, Telia Company and Vodafone, Europe’s leading mobile operators. .
OPPO, one of the first participants of the program, also contributed data and ideas for the creation of a fair, objective and consistent assessment methodology of Environmental Rating consisting of 19 different criteria. After a detailed evaluation, each smartphone will be given an overall Environmental Rating score out of 100, which determines the environmental performance of the product over its entire life cycle. Environmental Rating Label; It highlights five key aspects of sustainability: durability, repairability, recyclability, climate impact and resource efficiency.
In addition to developing collaborations with industry partners, OPPO also undertakes other initiatives, embracing building a more sustainable world and creating a better future for all as one of its core responsibilities. In this sense, OPPO is embracing more sustainable production processes covering design, packaging, material handling and more. Compared to 2019, OPPO recycled 13 times more products by weight in 2020. In the field of renewable materials, OPPO’s packaging is made of 45% renewable fibers. OPPO reduced its general waste by 42.7% and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 20% in 2020.
In addition to contributing to a healthier environment, these initiatives also help OPPO to be recognized by consumers and partners. Entering the Western European market three years ago, OPPO achieved significant growth in the market and gained a foothold in many markets. According to IDC and Canalys, OPPO’s smartphone shipments grew by 153% year-over-year in Europe, securing the top 4 in the region.
