Qualcomm plans to include Nuvia’s CPUs in its entire product portfolio.Qualcomm announced today that it has acquired chip designer Nuvia for about $ 1.4 billion.
Qualcomm stated that the acquisition of Nuvia’s CPU and technology design team will help the company “meet the demands of the next generation 5G”.
Qualcomm, known for its Snapdragon chipsets, has incorporated all of its products, including Nuvia’s CPUs, smartphone chips, next-generation laptop processors, advanced driver support systems and network systems. Nuvia’s founders Gerard Williams, Manu Gulati, John Bruno and their employees will join Qualcomm after the completion of the acquisition.
Cristiano Amon, president of Qualcomm and serving as CEO-Elect, said, “The recent increase in the use of 5G, computing and mobile architectures and the spread of mobile technologies to other industries are important opportunities for us.” Continuing his explanations on the subject, Amon said, “While the Nuvia team develops with an innovative approach that has proven itself, it has a solid infrastructure to create leading technologies and products like Qualcomm.
