Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system can exceed 10 Gbps speeds.Qualcomm announced the new generation 5G Modem-RF system.
The company’s fourth-generation 5G modem Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 follows in the footsteps of previous Snapdragon X50, X55 and X60 modems.
Snapdragon X65 offers several important new features. First of all, the modem promises to be the first 5G modem that can exceed 10 Gbps speeds. While this is quite a feat, it is worth noting that the vast majority of consumers still can’t even approach 1 Gbps speeds and even get less when indoors. Another thing Qualcomm is suggesting is that the X65 is the first 3GPP version 16 modem-RF system.
Qualcomm states that the Snapdragon X65 has an upgradeable architecture. In this sense, the modem-RF system needs to be future-proof or at least as good as possible. With this plan, the company can roll out new 3GPP Version 16 features with software updates.
The product also includes the fourth generation mmWave antenna module. Supporting higher transmission power, the antenna module also supports the new n259 (41GHz) band. Qualcomm says it uses artificial intelligence for antenna tuning and that will do things like increase the accuracy of detecting hand grips; Let’s also underline that mmWaves could not get through your hand or anything.
The Snapdragon X65 also includes other technologies like PowerSave 2.0 and Smart Transmit 2.0, the latter of which is all about increased upload speeds. Most of the issues with upload speeds are that there is a lot more power behind the 5G antenna than when your phone sends a signal back to the antenna. It is shared that keeping up with the uplink will be a tough race for a long time since we are now at multi-gigabit speeds for downlink.
Qualcomm says samples of both the Snapdragon X62 and Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF Systems have been made available to customers and devices using them will begin rolling out in late 2021.
