South Korean technology giant Samsung not only showcased its next generation TVs before CES 2021, but also announced its remote control charged with solar energy.

As part of the online event held before CES 2021, Samsung Electronics not only unveiled its new 4K and 8K QLED TVs, but also introduced a solar-powered remote control that eliminates the need for batteries.

The remote control, called Eco Remote, can be charged via the USB-C port as well as artificial or natural light. According to the South Korean manufacturer, this move will prevent nearly 99 million AAA class batteries wasted in the next seven years.

Made from recycled plastic
Samsung’s environmentally friendly remote control has a small solar panel. Eco Remote is made from 31 grams of plastic, made from 28 percent recycled polyethylene terephthalate. It is stated that the remote control can be used for two years on a single charge.

Eco Remote will save consumers from purchasing a considerable amount of batteries over the years, as well as effectively reducing plastic waste and therefore the environmental impact it causes.
