Snapdragon 888 wants to dominate the 5G market in China. The land of China, where Kirin reigns, may be Qualcomm in 2021.
Qualcomm recently launched the flagship 5G processor Snapdragon 888 chipset. The fact that the code name of this chipset is “fafafa”, which is the auspicious Chinese word, revealed Qualcomm’s goal. As you know, Huawei, who cannot shake hands with TSMC, will no longer be able to produce Kirin chipsets. Qualcomm will target Huawei, the sole ruler in 5G in the Chinese market, in 2021.
For example, Qualcomm’s mid-level chip code “6250” only supports Sub-6G. However, this chip does not support millimeter waves. Developed for the Chinese market, this chipset will target the entry level. So, as you can understand, Qualcomm will try to conquer the Chinese market from the entrance to the flagship.
SD 888 has been adopted by 14 mobile phone brands. This clearly puts pressure on Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek, and MediaTek has to respond. Therefore, MediaTek is expected to produce the flagship chipset in January. The price of this flagship chipset should be lower than the SD 888 so it can sell.
Finally, let’s note that the SD 888 chipset uses 1 x 2.84 GHz Cortex X1 core + 3 x 2.4 GHz Cortex A78 + 4 x 1.8 GHz Cortex A55 architecture. On the GPU side, it uses Adreno 660. In addition, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 ′ connections are also supported by this chipset.
Let’s see if Huawei’s failure to produce the Kirin chipset will make Qualcomm’s job easier in the Chinese market or will it sell it again in the country of Huawei?
