Starbucks customers can now pay with bitcoin using the Bakkt digital wallet application. Bakkt CEO Gavin Michael said that the company is looking forward to expanding its crypto assets to all, so 500,000 users took part in the tests before the launch.
You can now pay with Bitcoin at Starbucks
You can now pay in bitcoin by using the Bakkt wallet at the popular cafe chain called Starbucks. With more than 30,000 locations around the world, Starbucks is the world’s largest cafe chain, generating around US $ 26.50 billion annually. According to Bakkt executives, 500,000 customers have joined Bakkt’s invitation-only early access program, and now anyone can use the app to download and make purchases on the App Store and Google Play Store.
“The average consumer owns a large number of digital assets, from points on gift cards to bitcoin, but lacks the tools to use them,” Bakkt CEO Gavin Michael said during the announcement. “We are excited to bring the Bakkt App to the public as a step in our journey to expanding everyone’s access to digital assets.
Bakkt Has Identified Several Popular Partners
It’s not the only store that accepts bitcoin through the Bakkt app, as companies like Starbucks, Golfnow, Best Buy, Choice Hotels, and Fiserv are also participating. Karl Hebert, vice president of global card, trade and payments at Starbucks, explained that the Starbucks team works very closely with Bakkt team members.
“Our teams worked closely together as Bakkt looked for solutions to develop a unique and reliable payment experience that allows customers to unlock the value of their digital assets in US dollars,” Hebert said.
The Starbucks manager added:
We are excited that customers now have the opportunity to use Bakkt to load their Starbucks Cards into the Starbucks app and then use it to pay at Starbucks.
Additionally, Jerramy Hainline, Golfnow’s senior vice president and general manager, said his company looks forward to diversifying into an alternative payment system.
Hainline, as a technology leader in Sports, Golfnow is excited to join Bakkt to further diversify its payment solutions for our more than 3.5 million members.
The potential offered by our partnership is very interesting and creates an opportunity for our customers to make golf even more accessible by giving them the opportunity to convert their cryptocurrency, gift cards and unused points into a golf tour.
