PlayStation 3 News: Sony has surprisingly released an update for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. So, what’s coming with this update?
More than 14 years after its release, PlayStation 3 surprisingly received a new system software update numbered 4.88. PS3’s firmware update 4.87 was released in December 2020, and we were guessed it was the last update. After this last 200 MB update, another update was released today.
With the 4.88 update released for PS3, security vulnerabilities in the Blu-Ray drive and system are closed. It is estimated that another change has been made with the update. As you may remember, digital stores for PSP, PS3 and PS Vita would be closed in 2021. Presumably Sony made changes to the PS Store with the 4.87 update. However, after this decision garnered a reaction, the store closure event was suspended.
With the 4.88 update for PS3, the PS Store is expected to operate as before. Sony has also released an update for PS4. With the latest update for PS3 and PS4, breaking consoles is also prevented. It is also very interesting that Sony takes action to prevent pirated games from being played on the console, which is 14 years old.
On the PS4 side, CFW could be applied to the system with the latest updates for a long time. We can say that Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarök and Gran Turismo 7 games, which are thought to be PS5 special, will also come to PS4, allowing Sony to close CFW gaps.
Finally, it should be noted that the latest updates offered for both PS3 and PS4 over the internet do not contain innovations, they only close security vulnerabilities.
