Telegram reached the mark of 400 million monthly active users worldwide, said the CEO of the messaging app Pavel Durov, in a statement released on Friday (24). The last time the company released this data, in 2019, the figure was 300 million.
Launched seven years ago, the WhatsApp competitor gains at least 1.5 million users a day, according to Durov, appearing as the most downloaded social media app in 20 countries. The service has stood out during the pandemic period of the new coronavirus, offering several resources for studies and remote work.
Thinking of offering people in quarantine another alternative way of communicating with friends, family and co-workers, the messenger will launch the secure group video call feature.
In the statement, the executive commented that some apps with such a tool are safe or offer a good user experience, but do not bring both at the same time, possibly referring to programs that had problems, such as Zoom. According to him, Telegram wants to correct this and launch a totally secure video call function, later this year.
In addition to the safer group videoconferencing, which is coming soon, the messaging app has gained a new directory of stickers. In it, the user can quickly find and explore the more than 20 thousand stickers available on the platform.
A new file sharing menu has also been launched, reaching the version of the app for Android. Now, it starts to show the different categories, making it easier to find what you are looking for, showing animated icons.
The app for macOS now allows access to shared media directly from the redesigned profile screens, in addition to having a new sidebar of folders with icons similar to those of Telegram Desktop.
