Elon Musk announced in his latest interview that the Tesla Semi electric truck will come with a lower battery capacity than expected.
In a recent interview with Joe Rogan, Elon Musk said the Tesla Semi-electric truck will receive a smaller battery capacity than originally planned.
It is planned to enter mass production in 2022
According to Elon, the basic version of the Tesla Semi, capable of transporting goods up to 480 km, will have a 500 kWh battery. The entrepreneur explained that such efficiency would be achieved by using a battery pack with its own 4680 battery cell as a structural part of the vehicle’s chassis.
An extended-range version is also planned, but will only be released after the basic version hits the market. Tesla Semi was announced in 2017 and it was stated that the electric truck would offer a range of 480 to 800 km on a single charge. This was expected to require a traction battery with a capacity of 600 to 1000 kWh. The first batch of Tesla Semi will be produced this year. However, mass production is not expected to begin before 2022.
