In the first month of 2021, the chipsets that will power this year’s flagship phones have now been announced. Samsung, Huawei, Qualcomm and Apple are increasing the competition this year. The features of Exynos 2100, Snapdragon 888, Apple A14 and Kirin 9000 are known. All four processors come with 5nm EUV feature in the manufacturing process. We have to say that there have been tremendous improvements especially in battery life and game performance. Their integration with the 5G Modem shows that they will sweat like wrestlers who cannot beat each other in Kırkpınar. We estimate that MediaTek, which is partially behind the four horsemen of this apocalypse, will complete its deficiencies in the next few years.

 

 

Let’s start by saying that there are no huge differences between the Exynos 2100 and the Snapdragon 888. Both are participants of the Arm CXC program. The powerhouse of both chipsets is the Cortex-X1 core. Initial benchmarks revealed that this core is more powerful than Samsung’s M5 core. However, it turned out that Apple’s Firestorm cores were much more powerful. While the Kirin 9000 is not as bad as performance, it lags behind the trio.

Exynos 2100, Snapdragon 888, A14, Kirin 9000 Technical Information

If we talk about technical information, we can say that the A14 has significantly improved compared to A13. The Exynos 2100 has a new three-core NPU capable of handling 26 TFLOPS from 15 TFLOPS on the Exynos 990. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 has a similar 26 TFLOPS AI computation. Therefore, it delivers 73% more performance than Snapdragon 865’s 15 TFLOPS power.

On the other hand, we see that there are serious differences in camera performance. Exynos 2100 is very ambitious in this regard. It has new ISP support for 200MP camera resolutions. In addition, it can process the image by synchronizing four cameras at the same time. Snapdragon 888, on the other hand, can support 200 MP shooting at the same time, or process individual images with 24 MP each and turn them into a single photo. While both Samsung and Snapdragon provide us with 8k video shooting power, Apple A14 and Kirin 9000 do not support 8K resolution for now.

We see that the Kirin 9000 and Samsung Exynos 2100 go head to head in graphics performance. In fact, Huawei claims that the new Kirin is 52% better in performance than the Snapdragon 865. Samsung claims the 14-core ARM Mali G-78 provides up to 40% performance gains over Exynos.

However, Kirin 9000 is powered by 24-core ARM Mali-G78. In this sense, we can say that Kirin is ahead. Apple’s A14 promises an 8% performance increase over the A13. However, the new Androids, which are much stronger than the Android phones of 2020, can fight hard with Apple. The table below reveals the characteristics of the four monsters.
