TSMC will produce high-performance and efficient processors thanks to its 4nm manufacturing process. A new era begins in chipset production.


TSMC’s new breakthroughs are starting to become clear. The sector, which doubled the performance and increased efficiency with the 5nm production process in the mobile field, is now working on 4nm. TSMC officially announced today that it has started work on the 4nm production process. N6RF, N5A and 3D Fabric solutions to be used in this program were also announced. So what will these technologies do?

What will TSMC offer with 4nm?

The tech giant talked about the latest N5A technology based on the 5nm manufacturing process. It aims to provide the automotive industry with a more efficient and powerful solution to power AI-enabled features and digitization of the vehicle’s cockpit. The N5A process will meet all quality standards and reliability requirements of AEC-Q100 Grade 2 for automotive manufacturing. This technology will appear in the third quarter of 2022.

N6RF is more about the performance of 5G radio and Wi-FI 6/6e. N6RF transistors will deliver 16 percent higher performance at 16nm than current generation RF technology. efficiency compared to 5G RF; is optimized in both sub-6GHz and mmWave bands.

Finally, TSMC’s 3DFabric further expands 3D silicon stacking and packaging. It essentially allows for larger floor plans for chips and high-bandwidth memory solutions. More specifically, the so-called InFO_B solution stacks DRAM into a small package. In this way, the performance of the modules that will process from a single package also increases.

The first chipset with a 4nm manufacturing process is expected to be the Apple A15 chipset. Afterwards, Snapdragon 9 and Exynos series will be produced with this production process.
