TSMC also prefers AMD EPYC processor
TSMC’s infrastructure director stated that the company preferred servers with AMD EPYC processors in its production lines. Accordingly, AMD EPYC servers are involved in the automation of the production speed control of the machines in the production lines, water supply, electricity and gas.
The director emphasized that the servers are very cheap unlike production equipment that can cost billions of dollars, and that reliability is at the forefront in this area. Servers with EPYC processors, each running 1000 virtual machines, control 1000 vehicles in the factory.
According to TSMC, the high memory density of EPYC Rome processors is an important advantage. Using the 2nd generation AMD EPYC 7702P processor with 64 cores and 128 threads on the HPE DL32G 510 platform, TSMC also chose the EPYC 7F72 for its teams that need high frequency and did not compromise on 128 PCIe 4.0 channels.
