Selling more than 3 million copies in 3 weeks, Valheim could be the biggest viral hit in Steam history.
It’s hard not to notice the survival game Valheim, which has popped up in recent weeks and is now on its way to becoming Steam’s fastest growing hit of all time. Three weeks after launching early access, developer Iron Gate AB said, “Valheim is now bought by more than three million brave Vikings trying to survive in Yggdrasil’s 10th world – or possibly die from a tree falling on it.”
It’s hard to guess exactly why Valheim was such a hit. It was definitely popular with publishers and is currently the 7th most played game on the platform: CS: GO surpasses Dota 2, Minecraft and Rust (at least for now). However, demand for the game continues and the highest number of players in the last 24 hours has reached 390,000.
Whatever the reasons behind its success, Valheim is a really good game. The difference is, perhaps, it’s a production that rejects the boring parts of survival games.
