GEOFF KEIGHLEY RESPONDS TO THOSE WHO ACCUSE THAT THE LAST OF US 2 GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD WAS PURCHASED BY NAUGHTY DOG
The Last of Us 2 is a game that was and is enjoyed by millions of players around the world. However, since its launch it has been surrounded by controversy.
She even accompanied her at The Game Awards 2020, where in addition to winning several awards, she won Game of the Year. Instead of complaints decreasing, it appears that they increased. This was shown to the organizer of the event, Geoff Keighley.
THE LAST OF US 2 DID WELL AT THE GAME AWARDS 2020
That came out in a recent interview with Keighley. During this they made him see that the game won the award for Best Direction.
There would be nothing wrong with that if it were not for the accusations that the developers of this title had to work overtime to finish it. They did not even receive adequate compensation.
Many see it as a failure of both the director of this proposal and the administration itself.
In the case of The Last of Us 2, Geoff Keighley pointed out that there were discussions about it, but rejected that the culture of ‘crunch time’ - as the problem is called in the US - is a reason why a game cannot compete for a prize.
However, he also hinted that it was a very complicated situation. Ultimately, it left it up to the people involved in The Game Awards to decide which title should be nominated and which one to win.
GEOFF KEIGHLEY DOES NOT CHOOSE THE NOMINEES OR WINNERS
But he is open to the idea of broaching the subject. Related to this, he responded to accusations that Naughty Dog “paid” him to make his game the winner.
He stressed that he does not nominate the titles, nor is he involved in the selection of those who win awards. Additionally, he revealed that his favorite to win was not The Last of Us 2, but actually Half-Life: Alyx. Unfortunately, it was not taken into account when making the selection.
Keighley recalled that he has been accused of similar things in the past. For example, with Death Stranding from Kojima Productions.
All due to his friendship with Hideo Kojima, and many believed that this title would be the Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019. But in reality the winner was FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
It remains to be seen if the edition of the event in 2021 has some changes due to criticism, but it is difficult to confirm.
